LiSa™ – A patient monitor with revolutionary technology.
Here you can see how Nordiq Products uses unique technology to develop a unique product.
LiSa™ is an ultra-portable, rugged and reliable patient monitor designed for use in demanding situations by military medics, rescue teams, first responders and emergency medical personnel.
LiSa™ will replace unreliable solutions and manual monitoring – often based on subjective methods such as "look, listen & feel".
LiSa™ makes the first, vital minutes of patient management in the field more professional and efficient. LiSa™ is worn on the front of the neck and provides continuous, real-time monitoring of pulse, respiration and oxygen saturation, with alerts if action is required. This frees up valuable time for treatment and transport, while ensuring a continuous objective assessment of the patient’s condition.
Respiration measurement – a critical and unique factor
Changes in breathing pattern and rate are the most reliable indicator of deteriorating health. Yet, to date, there are no wearable devices that offer reliable, continuous, and accurate respiratory monitoring combined with multiple vital signs in the field. LiSa™ fills this gap by providing real-time insight into a patient’s breathing pattern, giving healthcare professionals a valuable tool in preventing serious incidents.
Unique neck placement for increased reliability and ease of use
LiSa™ is designed to be attached on the neck, a strategic placement that offers several important advantages over traditional fingertip pulse oximeters. The neck has a stable blood supply, ensuring more reliable measurements of pulse, oxygen saturation and respiration – even in situations where the patient is hypothermic, in shock or has lost a lot of blood and has low blood flow to the extremities, as well as in movement during evacuation.
More reliable measurements – Fingers are prone to vasoconstriction (constriction of blood vessels), especially in cold or shock conditions, making pulse oximeters unreliable. The neck has always prioritized blood flow to the head, which provides more stable measurements.
Superior respiration measurement – Our unique LightSense™ technology reliably measures breathing rate in real time, indirectly via the pulse signal.
In addition, LiSa™ AcouSense™ , our acoustic sensor, which records the sound of the breathing pattern directly from the throat. This gives LiSa™ two different sources of data and increases the reliability of the measurements. The two sensors have different strengths and weaknesses, and complement each other. This is completely unique in the emergency medical context.Hands-free monitoring – Since LiSa™ is attached to the neck, first responders can focus on treatment and transport without having to manually hold or adjust a sensor. It will also be relatively accessible to a well-wrapped patient.
Medically tactical placement - The placement on the neck allows the practitioner to simultaneously focus on the facial region, which will also provide information about the patient, including color, signs of pain or other indications of the patient's condition.
LiSa™'s neck placement, combined with sensor fusion and built-in display, will make LiSa™ a robust and reliable portable patient vital signs monitor.
Alarm for critical changes
LiSa™ is designed to provide healthcare professionals and first responders with immediate alerts if a patient's condition deteriorates and requires rapid intervention. If pulse, oxygen saturation or respiration deviate from normal values, LiSa™ will sound an alarm , allowing healthcare professionals to take necessary action before the situation escalates.
Display and external connectivity options
For added operational flexibility, LiSa™ features a built-in display, allowing for quick vital signs checks without relying on external devices or network connectivity. This is also a critical necessity in military operations, where digital signatures from wireless devices can reveal the user’s location. With LiSa™ in offline mode, the user can monitor the patient safely and effectively without the risk of digital exposure.
Real-time notification – Alarm for critical changes in pulse, oxygen saturation or respiration.
Built-in display for quick check – Ideal for situations where external displays are not available or desirable.
Offline mode for tactical operations – No digital signals that can reveal position.
Connectivity options for flexibility and greater overview – LiSa™ can be connected to external displays for more detailed viewing and monitoring from a distance.
Integration with centralized systems – Can send real-time data to hospitals, emergency medical services (113/911), or command centers, allowing medical personnel to monitor the patient's condition and prepare treatment before arrival.
This combination of local display, offline functionality and the possibility of centralized connectivity makes LiSa™ a superior tool for both military, first responders and emergency medical services by being able to adapt to different needs.
The technology behind LiSa™ – Advanced sensors for precise monitoring of vital signs
LiSa™ combines several advanced proprietary sensor systems to provide precise, continuous and reliable real-time measurement of pulse, oxygen saturation and respiratory rate, even under extreme conditions.
Core technologies
LiSa™ is based on three proprietary technologies developed by Nordiq:
LightSense™ – Multi-wavelength optical sensor for accurate measurements of pulse, respiration and oxygen saturation. The sensor’s unique patent-pending geometric design ensures high-quality data, providing the robustness and reliability required for LiSa™.
AcouSense™ – Acoustic sensor . Monitors respiration and heart rate using microphones and advanced data analysis. This provides a unique and more robust measurement of breathing and pulse.
SkinSight™ – A calibration algorithm that ensures optical measurements are accurate across all skin types, including skin tone. Today’s pulse oximeters cannot provide reliable measurements on dark skin, but our algorithms adjust the sensor for optimal performance to the patient’s individual skin type. This algorithm also improves the quality of respiration measurements across all skin tones.
Sensor Fusion – Superior Reliability and Robustness in LiSa™
LiSa™ uses advanced sensor fusion, a technology that combines multiple sensors to provide more accurate, robust and reliable vital sign measurements. By integrating and combining LightSense™ and AcouSense™ , LiSa™ can continuously assess the quality of its own measurements and compensate for challenging conditions in the field.
What is sensor fusion, and why is it important?
Sensor fusion means that different sensors not only collect data independently, but also assess their own reliability and complement each other's strengths and weaknesses. This provides a more holistic and accurate assessment of the patient's condition, even in demanding environments with movement, cold, varying light and sound conditions.
Dynamic quality assessment – LiSa™ continuously evaluates the quality of both optical and acoustic measurements.
Complementary sensors – If one sensor has reduced accuracy, the other can compensate and ensure reliable data.
User notification in case of failure – If both sensors fail to provide reliable data, LiSa™ notifies the user, allowing them to adjust the placement or monitor manually until the device again provides reliable monitoring.
Today's portable pulse oximeters do not have this functionality. They either provide an unreliable number with no quality indication or no measurement at all, which can lead to misjudgments in critical situations.
With LiSa™'s sensor fusion and intelligent quality control, healthcare professionals gain a safer and more effective tool for patient monitoring in the field.
